Genus comprised of 25 species of evergreen shrubs, and sub-shrubs. These plants naturally occur in dry rocky habitats from the Canary Islands, Mediterranean, N.E. Africa, S.W. Africa, and India. The leaves are simple or toothed, and can be pinnate, or 2-pinnate, and are borne on strong shrubby stems. The flowers are 2-lipped, are high in nectar content, and fragrant in most species. The flowers attract pollinating insects and hummingbirds by the hordes.
