Armeria 'MiniSticks Rose', or seathrift commonly, is a very hardy plant that has beautiful dark green foliage resembling grass and cheery rosy blooms on short stalks. This variety is among the first perennials to bloom in late winter/spring and it remains evergreen all year long for 365 day interest. Not a drought tolerant plant by any means but with regular garden maintenace you can enjoy them for years.
We stumbled upon some wild seathrift in a bay area in the Patagonia region (google it; it's cold there) and it was hanging out with a bunch of muscles along the rocky coast. Armeria is tolerant of some salinity and will grow in beach towns.
