Collection: Squash Plants, Squash Transplants

Squash is thought to have originated in North and South America; but actual locality is not really known.  The name squash is derived from the corruption of the Indian name ascutasquash, which means gourd; these plants were most likely tropical vines.  These tender annuals are commonly divided into two groups winter squash and summer squash.  Winter squash has a thick skin that enables long term storage and can normally store for up to 4 months.  Summer squash is typically harvested when immature and used fresh, canned, or frozen.
