Asclepsias tuberosa - Butterfly Weed Plants
Asclepsias tuberosa, or Orange Butterfly Weed, is a popular plant for attracting monarch butterflies. The deep green foliage gives way to beautiful umbels of orange tubular flowers in June through August. They will flower again in fall if they are trimmed to prevent seed pod formation. These flowers are loved by all butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Monarch butterflies will also lay their eggs on these, as it is a food source for the caterpillars. Kids love watching the caterpillars, as well as, shaking the pods and watching the seeds parachute on the wind. A US Native plant that tolerates heat, humidity, and drought.

Fertilizer: If using compost apply an 1" at planting time and side dress annually in late fall or early spring. It is only recommended to use liquid fertilizers when the growth is slow, and this is not normally needed.
