Tomato 'Rutgers' Plants

Tomato 'Rutgers' Plants

'Rutgers', is a popular heirloom developed in 1934 by Rutgers University in conjunction with the Campbell's soup company.  These meaty fruits resist cracking and are a nice balanced taste with minimum seeds.  These qualities made them the ideal tomato for processing back when they were developed.  While, they are rarely used for large scale commercial production today many gardeners appreciate their great taste and versatile use as either a slicing or canning tomato.  Resistant to Fusarium Wilt (race 1) and Verticillium Wilt.
