Muhlbergia capillaris 'Pink Hair Grass'

'Pink Hair Grass', is a variety of muhly grass that sports spikey reddish-pink tufts over top blue-green foliage.  The narrow foliage emerges in mid-spring and quickly forms a compact clump.  This clump is an attractive glaucous color before erupting with reddish-pink spikelets in early August.  Then, transitioning to a powder pink by October.   These spikelets eventually grow to a foot tall, with a gentle arch, and remain attractive until late-November.  Eventually the blooming stalks will die off for the year over top of the blue-green foliage.  In parts of zone 6 and zone 7 the plants will die back completely to re-emerge in spring.  This will vary with winter temperatures.  Muhly grass is an easy to grow drought and heat tolerant perennial grass great for xeriscaping.
