Malva sylvestris 'Zebrina' Plants

Malva sylvestris 'Zebrina' Plants

Malva 'Zebrina' is one of the first perennials we started offering and one of the few that is still hanging around.  It is hard to get rid of a top performing classic.  The glossy dark green leaves give way to uniquely shaped blooms in early June.  The blooms are borne abundantly for about six weeks before the plants start to die back, and the seed ripens.  Songbirds like, goldfinches, particularly love the seeds.  If the dried seed heads are not preferred the entire plant can be trimmed to 3" above the crown making a 45-degree angle cut so that water will run off easier.  A great choice for the mid to back border or making a neat hedge.  This variety will self-seed freely.
