• Most cabbage varieties will remain in the garden for weeks before splitting in cool
    weather.
  • During the hot days of summer it is best to harvest heads in early morning.
  • Locate a sharp knife or garden pruners.
  • Cut heads when they are firm to the touch by cutting the main stem right under the
    cabbage head.
  • The remaining plant can be pulled and discarded from the garden after harvest.
  • After harvesting clean heads under running water.
  • Cabbage leaves may also be picked when tender and boiled like spinach or collard greens.
  • Steamed cabbage leaves are useful as a wrap for stir-fries and meats.
