- Most cabbage varieties will remain in the garden for weeks before splitting in cool
weather.
- During the hot days of summer it is best to harvest heads in early morning.
- Locate a sharp knife or garden pruners.
- Cut heads when they are firm to the touch by cutting the main stem right under the
cabbage head.
- The remaining plant can be pulled and discarded from the garden after harvest.
- After harvesting clean heads under running water.
- Cabbage leaves may also be picked when tender and boiled like spinach or collard greens.
- Steamed cabbage leaves are useful as a wrap for stir-fries and meats.
