| This genus is comprised of 8 species of rhizomatous perennials that are found in meadows, and woodland settings throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The foliage is 2-3 ternate, which consists of toothed leaves that are held on strong stems. In mid-spring to early-summer the small white flowers are borne in ovoid racemes, and contain very prominent stamens. Parent Species of Plants We Offer: Actaea alba(White baneberry) - Clump forming perennial with leaves to 24" long and are composed of three to twelve leaflets. In late spring to early summer the small white flowers are borne in spherical racemes and are up to two inches across. A native to eastern North America that can reach heights of three feet with a 24" spread. Growing Tips Preferring an organically based soil in full sun to partial shade with a pH range of 6.0 - 7.0. In poor soils incorporate organic matter in order to help with drainage, moisture retention, and porosity. Actaeas are slow to establish themselves, with it taking up to three years after transplanting before full size is reached. After full size is reached the plants unique ornamental capabilities are enlarged, and provide years of astonishing beauty. |
