• Plant in a well-drained soil with a moderate organic content.
  • Add compost to soils light in fertility.  
  • Keeping soil moisture even produces higher quality melons.  
  • Mulching with straw or like material helps keep soil moisture consistent.  
  • Avoid picking melons after a heavy rain or irrigation, as the melon flavor will have a
    higher water content and taste diluted.
  • Watch for mid-late blights and fungal conditions.
  • In areas where the squash vine borer is a nuisance we recommend treating plants with
    beneficial nematodes.
