• Plant in an organically rich soil, in full sun, and within a pH range of 5.5 - 8.0.
  • Squash plants require at least 60 - 75 days of hot weather for an optimum harvest.
  • Use compost in the planting hole to feed a growing plant and help retain soil moisture.
  • In light soils, without the use of compost, provide a weekly feeding supplement of an
    organic all purpose fertilizer.
  • Drip irrigation, as opposed to overhead irrigation, helps prevent fungal and bacterial
outbreaks that can be cause by excessive moisture resting on the leaves.
  • Squash plants are monoecious, which means they set both male and female flowers on
the same plant; therefore pollination has to be accomplished through wind and insects.
  • Incorporate lavender plants, agastache plants, and other plants that attract pollinators into
your garden.  The addition of these plants increases pollination between squash flowers
    and the overall harvest.
