Papaver genus contains seventy species of perennials, annuals, and biennials, that range throughout temperate regions around the globe. Normally found in lowlands to high mountains, and are widely cultivated in many situations. The dark green to bluish green leaves are usually pinnatisect, pinnatified, or 3-pinnate. The dimensional flowers are wide and bowl, cup, or saucer shaped. Our perennial poppy offerings are some of the flashiest cultivars of Papaver orientale and Papaver rupifragum.

Papaver (Poppy) Growing Tips
|
|
|
- Plant in a well-drained soil that has been slightly enriched with organic matter.
- Do not provide a rich garden soil, as these are waste land plants, and will grow lanky in
soils high in organic matter. Well-drained mineral soils are best.
- Before planting make sure the pH of your soil is within a 5.5-7.0 for optimum growth
and flowering.
- Papaver plants thrive in full sun and do not perform as well in partial shade.
- Do not allow the soil to dry out on Papaver orientale species and cultivars in late
summer when they are in their natural state of dormancy.
