- In light soil incorporate an ample amount of compost into the topsoil prior to
transplanting.
- In average garden soil a light application of compost is beneficial.
- When, planting poor draining soils incorporate products like gypsum or greensand along
with an abundant amount of compost.
- Transplant during the cool, shaded parts of the day like in the morning and evening when
the sun is low in the sky.
- Water plants throughly after transplanting to eliminate air pockets, that can dry the new
root system and cause death of the fresh transplant.
- Fertilize if needed in light soils. Organically rich soils can support lettuce plants from
transplant to harvest.
- Mulch if desired and maintain a moderate soil moisture.
