- Loving an organically rich soil that is in a pH range of 6.0 - 8.0.
- Leeks require consistently moist soil to maintain good substance.
- The use of sifted compost to hill up the leeks and elongate shanks is also a great way to
fertilize the growing soft bulb.
- In poor soils digging in compost is recommended for drainage and a constant supply of
nutrients.
- Leeks are rarely touched by pests, just watch for spring slugs, and neck rot in poor
draining soils.
