• Loving an organically rich soil that is in a pH range of 6.0 - 8.0.  
  • Leeks require consistently moist soil to maintain good substance.  
  • The use of sifted compost to hill up the leeks and elongate shanks is also a great way to
    fertilize the growing soft bulb.
  • In poor soils digging in compost is recommended for drainage and a constant supply of
    nutrients.  
  • Leeks are rarely touched by pests, just watch for spring slugs, and neck rot in poor
    draining soils.
