Herbs have been cultivated for centuries the world around for their individual cures, edible
qualities, or aromatic features.  For example in Ancient Greece parsley was used as a tonic
which aided in curing multiple stomach conditions.  Herbs were also prized in ancient times for
the same desirable traits that they are used for in present day settings.

Herbs are considered by definition to be any plant that has beneficial properties when used in
culinary dishes, for curing ailments, fragrance, and/or dyes.  In reality their are so many
beneficial plants that the word herb is almost a default in the plant world.  There are annual
herbs (Ex.basil), perennial herbs (Ex. oregano), and biennial herbs (Ex. parsley).  Though in
most cases the flowers or seeds are not used, so harvesting can be accomplished within the
first growing season.  Herbs are a highly nutritious addition to meals and contain an abundance
of valuable vitamins and minerals.  Not only do they offer complexity to the everyday diet, but
their exceptional tastes turn boring dishes into flavorful surprises.
