Delosperma (Ice Plants)
Genus of 150 or more species of evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs and mat-forming
succulents.  The hardy ice plant has triangular leaves, which are borne in opposite pairs, and
give way to daisy-like flowers over a long duration.  Native to South Africa.
Delosperma (Ice Plant) Growing Tips
  • Plant in a coarse well-drained soil within a pH range of 6.0-7.5.
  • Does not tolerate wet feet and prefers a rocky/sandy loam.
  • Where not hardy, ice plants can be grown as an annual.
  • Great plant for hot dry areas.
  • In extreme drought conditions the leaves may drop while blooming will continue.  The
succulent leaves will return from the tuber once moisture is returned to the soil.
  • If growing in containers use regular garden soil or add sand to the potting medium.
Most peat based mediums stay too soggy in winter for Delosperma plants.
